Being a big fan of the “Arthur” triology by the same author I was looking forward to reading this one. I enjoyed getting to know Gatty better (she was a character in the previous books) and the author develops her character well – she turns out to be exactly as I’d hoped.

I found it difficult to keep with the pace of the book. At times events were described in great detail and at others situations seemed to jump ahead leaving me feeling that something was missing. I missed the Arthur character and didn’t really take to the new characters. However, the descriptions of the places they visited really brought them alive – I could feel the heat and smell the spices!

Overall I enjoyed the book but didn’t feel it was as good as the original trilogy. The ending didn’t disappoint and I hope there’s another – I’m curious to know what finally happens to Gatty and Arthur. I’ve a feeling their adventures aren’t over yet and this books hints at a possible romance!
